- PMBOK is US standard and is accepted worldwide while PRINCE2 is UK standard.
- PMBOK is all-embracing while PRINCE2 focuses on key risk areas only and does not claim to be absolute.
- PMBOK is largely descriptive and not very dictatorial while PRINCE2 is highly regulatory, especially on Process Structure, but adaptable to any size project.
- PMBOK offers core and facilitating processes; need to be scaled to the project needs while in PRINCE2all the processes needs to be considered which can also be scaled.
- PMBOK is driven by customer requests while chief drivers of PRINCE2 are Business cases.
- PMBOK: Sponsors, Stakeholders, Scope, Time and Cost. PRINCE2: Clear Project Ownership, Direction by Senior Management, Plans, Business Case.
- PMBOK offers Procurement which is not covered in PRINCE2.
