Manage Projects By Leveraging Your People’s Happiness
People’s tendency is to do what give them happiness and to be reluctant of what give them pain.
American Psychologist Hull says that:
- Happiness or pain comes quickly after the behavior.
- The result of either is repeated frequently.
- Either is significant for the recipient.
Today, I’m going to talk about several management practices that can leverage your team member’s happiness.
- When your team member’s behavior is apt; make the reward as specific as possible.
- Make sure that there are no delays in rewarding them after acceptable behaviour has taken place.
- Neglect unacceptable behavior unless there is a serious impact.
- Consistently reward the behavior once it has been learned.
- Once the apt behavior is converted into a habit; the rewards can be step by step discontinued.
Reward doesn’t essentially mean financial rewards. It can be non-financial as well. Here is how you can motivate your people without giving financial rewards.
Understanding of human behaviors plays a great role in management. As a project manger you need to understand human psychology well. If you do that and act upon, you are most likely to manage people well.
