Manage Projects By Leveraging Your People’s Happiness

Manage Projects By Leveraging Your People's HappinessPeople’s tendency is to do what give them happiness and to be reluctant of what give them pain.

American Psychologist Hull says that:

  • Happiness or pain comes quickly after the behavior.
  • The result of either is repeated frequently.
  • Either is significant for the recipient.

Today, I’m going to talk about several management practices that can leverage your team member’s happiness.

  1. When your team member’s behavior is apt; make the reward as specific as possible.
  2. Make sure that there are no delays in rewarding them after acceptable behaviour has taken place.
  3. Neglect unacceptable behavior unless there is a serious impact.
  4. Consistently reward the behavior once it has been learned.
  5. Once the apt behavior is converted into a habit; the rewards can be step by step discontinued.

Reward doesn’t essentially mean financial rewards. It can be non-financial as well. Here is how you can motivate your people without giving financial rewards.

Understanding of human behaviors plays a great role in management. As a project manger you need to understand human psychology well. If you do that and act upon, you are most likely to manage people well.
