Today, I’d like to talk about Dependable Project Managers – Yes, in the time of PMI powered Project Management practices; I want to throw some light over the major characteristics of dependable Project Managers.
- Well-built Project Manager manages with veracity and uprightness. The best Project Managers are the most dependable.
- They have business acumen. They have a gut; raze that guides them well.
- They are Client-centric. They agree with Druker’s known saying, “Only a customer can define the purpose of a business”.
- They think global, and act local. They have a global mindset which is 100% end-client-focused.
- They scorn red-tape and welcome change. They believe that “Change is a never ending constant.”
- They are strong communicators – they practice empathy. They know how to listen. They don’t yell out orders at subordinates.
- They are real team builders. They take genuine interests in the individual – in lieu of that they craft the relationship such that the individual give the best to the project.
- They focus on achieving the objectives of the project. Individual contributions are meaningful only when they help the project achieve its goals.
- They are energizers. They inspire others to perform. They articulate a vision of the project for the team to carry out.
- They are enthusiasm powerhouse. It multiplies individual’s capabilities.
- They accomplish and deliver. They don’t just meet the goals, they beat it.
- They love what they do. They get up every day to attack the task-in-hand. For them, work is their love and not just work.
In a nutshell, Dependable Project Managers are those one who have tremendous vigour. They are able to uplift their teams to perform with 200% efficiency. More to that, they are always in good touch of their clients and deliver on time. They grab power by always doing what they say they would do. Every single time.

I like reason #7 – They are real team builders. They take genuine interests in the individual – in lieu of that they craft the relationship such that the individual give the best to the project.
I would go further and explain that a team builder helps team members discern and maximize their individual motivational reasons for doing their very best work. For example, if a team member wants to do work that changes the world for the better, the PM helps that member identify why his role in the team helps the team to do work that changes the world for the better.
