Movie Review: Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi – RNBDJ

by Utpal Vaishnav on December 15, 2008

If you have ever loved someone with all your heart then you won’t be able to stop you enjoying Rab Ne Bana di Jodi!

Adi Chopra and YashRaj Films has proved once again that they have power to touch the hearts with their known ingredients like fun, music, dance, emotions, love and the instinct factory – Shah Rukh Khan!

Hats off to everyone who has been associated with RNBDJ. So many things are really touching and the whole movie is lovable.

Have we ever thought whether the most ordinary and un-interesting man you see next door around you have a love story to tell?  May be not! How come?

But Guess what, love never differentiate between ordinary and extraordinary, interesting and uninteresting. Love doesn’t know distinguishing the distinctions! It can happen to anyone to let them travel to the heaven without dying.

Well, story is simple and predictable but the direction and action is outstanding. Screenplay could have been better though.

The story is about Surinder Sahni (Shah Rukh Khan) – a simple and honest man who works for Punjab Power. When he sees totally opposite girl Tanni (Anushka Sharma) in a marriage, he falls in love with her.

Due to the circumstances (lucky for Surinder and unlucky for Tanni) they get married to live not so exciting marriage life.

Surinder tries to find little happiness from the instances where Tanni is with her no matter how un-heartedly. (Once Tanni says Surinder that she would never love him, just she can try to be a good wife.)

Sooner, the biggest dance show in Amritsar and life of Tanni and Surinder changes. Tanni falls in love with a cool Amritsar Jaat guy, Raj who owns a Motor Garage. Raj is none other than Surinder who changed his external look in order to impress Tanni with the help of his best friend (Vinay Pathak, who has acted tremendously) and his bike.

Many people could not understand why a woman (Anushka) was not able to identify her husband just after applying an external makeover and considered as a flow in the movie. The logical answer to this question is: ‘that woman has never accepted her husband to be her husband (Some specific sequences shows that – they sleep in separate rooms and talk only what are necessary to run the life) so that she just couldn’t think that smart looking guy (Raj) could be her actual husband.

Aditya’s innovative thought is praiseworthy on certain parts like Shah Rukh laying rose next to food and again placing it vase, pictorial of Anushka’s face for the song ‘Tuj Mei Rab Diktha Hai’ and entire Amritsar being lit up, ‘I Love You’ deserves grand round of applause. Fine! Young lads and missies would hail with praise worthy comments for Adi’s ideation.

Both SRK and Anushka swallowing Pani Purees followed by abrupt sequence where he has to finish of delicious Biriyani are evokes laughter.

Ravi Chandran’s cinematography is cool and enhances visual quality and his placement of creative angles deserves special attention.

Music is also good. ‘Haule Haule’ and ‘Dance Pe’ are at peak due to promos. Nevertheless, Tuj Me Rab Dikhta Hai captures your senses with beauteous visualizing. Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte is average. Ritesh Soni has tremendously edited Dancing Jodi in the Climax.

Story: 3.5/5

Music: 3.5/5

Acting: 4.5/5

Direction: 4.5/5

Overall: 4.5/5 (Worth Watch! SRK Show)

In one sentence: “RNBDJ is the movie which will ignite senses of true love within you if you have ever been into.”

In Surinder Sahni’s words: Must Watch Ji, Entertainment Power – Lighting up your lives!
